Access to elusive alkynyl azides was accomplished with good yields by the key reaction of alkynyliodonium salts with azide salts; this synthesis opens a door not only to isolate and characterize azidoacetylene but also to prepare a variety of products via short‐lived azidovinylidene and cyanocarbene intermediates.
