Chopped up : The success of the title reaction strongly depends on the domain size of the WO 3 crystallites, and the type of support. Structurally stable WO 3 plays a bifunctional role in the promotion of the hydrolysis of cellulose into sugar intermediates, and more significantly in the selective cleavage of the CC bonds in these sugars.
