Geminal diauration of [Ph 3 PAu(aryl)] complexes has been investigated to model the intermediacy of geminally diaurated gold(I)–vinyl complexes in catalysis (see scheme). The results advance our understanding of the factors influencing the stability, reactivity, and dynamics of these organometallic intermediates.
