A simple and straightforward route to novel bifunctional solid catalysts that combine both acid and base functions is described in the Communication by N. R. Shiju, G. Rothenberg, et al. on page 9615 ff. The synthesis allows easy tailoring of the acid/base properties by controlling the number and surface concentration of the acid (red) and base (blue) sites (depicted as robots). The catalytic efficiency and robustness of these new materials were demonstrated in one‐pot tandem reactions.
