A remarkably active catalyst system for the hydrogenation of a variety of acyclic and cyclic amides to the corresponding alcohols and amines is demonstrated by J. M. John and S. H. Bergens in their Communication on page 10 377 ff. Turnover numbers as high as 7200 are reported, as well as observations of the punitive active homogeneous catalyst, trans ‐[Ru(H) 2 (Ph 2 PCH 2 CH 2 NH 2 ) 2 ], derived from Ph 2 P(CH 2 ) 2 NH 2 and cis ‐[Ru(CH 3 CN) 2 ( η 3 ‐C 3 H 5 )(cod)]BF 4 (cod=1,5‐cyclooctadiene).
