Quick on the uptake : Uranium(III) complexes bearing hexadentate triazacyclononane macrocyclic ligands L 1 engage di‐ and triketones in both one‐ and two‐electron reduction pathways. The dinuclear enolate generated through one of these pathways reacts with carbon dioxide to generate a new CC bond (see scheme).
