Interface matters! Photoelectron spectra of aqueous solutions of monoethanolamine (MEA) that had been treated with CO 2 were used to determine the spatial distribution of MEA and the reaction products with respect to the solution interface (see picture). Neutral MEA shows a propensity for the solution surface, whereas protonated MEA and the reaction products prefer bulk solvation.
