Virus‐based nanoparticle scaffolds (VNPs) were used for two‐step construction of discrete 3D nanoarchitectures (see picture): 1) loading of quantum dots (QDs) into VNPs formed by cysteine‐modified capsid protein VP1 of simian virus 40; 2) attaching controlled numbers of Au nanoparticles (AuNPs) to VNP surfaces through AuS bond formation.
