Reductions made easy : A highly efficient iron catalyst effects the homogeneous hydrogenation of ketones under very mild conditions (see scheme). A mechanism including the insertion of the ketone into the FeH bond, followed by addition of hydrogen to a dearomatized intermediate is proposed.
