Combining the coloration process and the synthesis of poly(lactic acid) overcomes the shortcomings of traditional aqueous dyeing processes, reduces the costs, and fulfils the requirements for the apparel industry, thus providing an economic, sustainable, and feasible replacement for standard polyesters. The coloration process as described by P. C. McGowan et al. in their Communication on page 291 ff. can achieve high color strength damaging the fibers.
