A close analogue to diazide : Azido isocyanate, N 3 ‐NCO, is formed by a stepwise photo‐induced decomposition of carbonyl diazide, CO(N 3 ) 2 , and characterized by matrix IR, UV/Vis spectroscopy, and DFT calculations (see scheme). The azido carbonyl nitrene intermediate N 3 C(O)N has also been characterized.
