Get active : Neutral TaO 4 d 0 complex is able to cleave dihydrogen heterolytically and spontaneously to form [HTaO(OH)(η 2 ‐O 2 )] in solid argon at cryogenic temperatures. Theoretical calculations predict that the hydrogen atoms in [HTaO(OH)(η 2 ‐O 2 )] can easily be transferred to organic compounds. Thus, TaO 4 can serve as a model catalyst for hydrogenation reactions.
