Cubanes and beyond : Diversity and originality characterize the Ni II complexes obtained from sodium (pyridine‐2‐yl)methanolate. The ligand/metal ratio and the presence of Na + are key parameters to explain the formation of Ni 4 Na 3 , Ni 6 Na, or Ni 7 polynuclear complexes with magnetically interacting centers. Such observations are relevant to the possible in situ formation of unexpected and possibly overlooked active species in catalytic reactions.
