The new complex silver(II) oxide AgSO 4 was synthesized by a methathetic reaction of Ag(SbF 6 ) 2 and K 2 SO 4 in anhydrous HF at −80 °C or by the reaction of AgF 2 with H 2 SO 4 at −35 °C. The magnetic moments of the rectangular planar coordinated Ag 2+ ions in AgSO 4 are antiferromagnetically coupled to the chains through the O–O edges of the sulfate ions (see picture). The Ag 2+ –Ag 2+ super‐superexchange interaction is unusually strong.
