A molecular Zintl phase? Structural investigations and DFT calculations on the spectroscopic and thermodynamic properties of an Al 12 K 8 (O t Bu) 18 compound (see picture: Al blue, K yellow, O green) support the unusual bonding of this Al 12 cluster and its role in a unified cluster model.
