Pure silicon building blocks in solution are an exciting addition to the repertoire of the materials science of Group 14 elements. The preparation of the complex [{Ni(CO) 2 } 2 (μ‐Si 9 ) 2 ] 8− shows that rational synthetic transformations with the Si 9 4− Zintl ion are feasible.
