Convenient access to nitridosilicates with the whole range of dimensionality known for silicates is provided by synthesis in molten lithium in welded‐shut tantalum ampoules. For example, Li 4 Ca 3 Si 2 N 6 consists of edge‐sharing “bow‐tie” [Si 2 N 6 ] 10− units, LiCa 3 Si 2 N 5 has an edge‐sharing double‐chain and channels occupied by Li + ions, and Li 2 Sr 4 Si 4 N 8 O exhibits a zeolite‐analogous structure due to inclusion of Li 2 O (see picture).
