Like a differential gear : Upon irradiation with visible light, excited dye molecules inject electrons into TiO 2 and form dye radicals, which can oxidize TEMPO to TEMPO + , which in turn oxidizes alcohols in the presence of O 2 selectively to corresponding aldehydes. One reason for the selectivity is that the irradiation is downshifted to visible light.
