Seeing the filling in fullerenes : The 13 C NMR chemical shifts of the C 2 units in Sc 2 C 2 @C 82 ( C 3 v ), Sc 2 C 2 @C 84 ( D 2 d ), [Sc 3 C 2 @C 80 ( I h )] − (see picture), adamantylidene adduct of Sc 3 C 2 @C 80 ( I h ) were observed for the first time and agree well with the calculated values. The 13 C NMR chemical shifts of all cage carbon atoms in these fullerenes were assigned by 2D INADEQUATE NMR measurements.
