Reduction with CaH 2 of double‐layered perovskite Sr 3 Fe 2 O 7 yielded novel two‐legged S =2 ladder compound Sr 3 Fe 2 O 5 . Together with the synthesis of SrFeO 2 , this opens up new avenues for solid‐state chemistry and physics of a series of n ‐legged ladders Sr n +1 Fe n O 2 n +1 . The picture illustrates the structural transformation from FeO 6 octahedra in Sr 3 Fe 2 O 7 to FeO 4 squares in Sr 3 Fe 2 O 5 , which occurs via intermediate Sr 3 Fe 2 O 6 (Sr blue, O red, Fe yellow).
