Activation by adding PPh 3 : The catalytic dehydrogenation of isopentane to give isopentene and hydrogen with iridium catalysts on a silica gel support at 450 °C proceeds with impressive conversion when the support is impregnated with PPh 3 . The active species are proposed to be iridium phosphides which arise by thermal cleavage of phenyl groups.
