Toward greener organic synthesis : A high activity for the aerobic oxidation of alcohols is achieved under base‐free and ambient conditions by using gold catalysts supported on mesostructured γ‐Ga 2 O 3 /Al 2 O 3 solid solutions (see picture). The enhanced activity is attributed to the extraordinary alcohol‐dehydrogenation activity of gallia‐based mixed oxides.
