The actinide metallocene hydrides [{(C 5 Me 5 ) 2 UH} 2 ] and [{(C 5 Me 5 ) 2 ThH 2 } 2 ] convert three equivalents of acetonitrile into a polydentate ligand containing a six carbon atom chain (see scheme). These reactions show that a Th IV hydride moiety can undergo chemistry similar to U III in a multistep reaction.
