Binding by the light : A photoactive ruthenium(II)–pterin wire designed to target the tetrahydrobiopterin (H 4 B) binding site of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS heme ) binds to iNOS heme in a competitive fashion with the natural cofactor and other small molecules; thus it can be used to screen potential inhibitors. Rapid charge injection to the heme occurs upon 450‐nm excitation of an iNOS heme /wire conjugate.
