Like a chip off the old block : Compound porous membranes Si x A y , such as Si 3 N 4 , SiC, and Zn 2 SiO 4 , have been synthesized by in situ conversion of porous silicon (PS) films (see picture). The resultant membranes inherit the morphology and microstructure of the mother PS films and have potential applications in filters, catalytic supports, and sensing materials.
