Heptarhodium wagon wheel [Rh 7 (P i Pr 3 ) 6 H 18 ][BAr F 4 ] 2 (shown), which resembles a planar Rh(111) surface with 18 hydride ligands, was obtained together with [Rh 8 (P i Pr 3 ) 6 H 16 ][BAr F 4 ] 2 from the reaction of [Rh(P i Pr 3 ) 2 (nbd)][BAr F 4 ] and [Rh(nbd) 2 ][BAr F 4 ] with hydrogen (Ar F =C 6 H 3 (CF 3 ) 2 , nbd=norbornadiene). Some of the H ligands are located in threefold hollows between Rh centers and thus mimic the orientation of atomic hydrogen adsorbed on Rh(111).
