Cagey characters : Heteronorbornanes (R 2 CP) 2 E 3 unexpectedly form when selenium or sulfur react with 2,4‐diphosphapentadiene derivatives (R 2 CP) 2 E (R=Me 3 Si, E=S, Se; see picture). Calculations on model compounds (R=H 3 Si, E=S), and synthesized counterparts suggest that the (R 2 CP) 2 S 3 cage forms after a sequence of CS and PS bond cleavage and formation steps involving SP III ‐CR 2 ‐S‐P V (S)CR 2 as an open‐chain intermediate.
