Singlet carbenes are not always stable : Isothiazole carbenes, recently reported as crystalline solids, cannot even be observed at room temperature; they rearrange into their 2‐imino‐2 H ‐thiete isomers with an energy barrier of about 1 kcal mol −1 (see scheme).
