Magnetic personalities : [Fe(η 4 ‐C 14 H 10 ) 2 ] − is an unprecedented example of an anionic 17‐electron homoleptic polyarene transition‐metal complex. This species is the first isolable homoleptic polyarene iron complex. It provides “naked” atomic Fe −I in its reaction with 1,3‐butadiene to yield the first structurally authenticated homoleptic bis(1,3‐butadiene) metal complex, [Fe(η 4 ‐C 4 H 6 ) 2 ] − (see structure).
