Complex detection : Gas‐phase protonated carbonic acid, C(OH) 3 + ( 1 ), and its isomeric H 3 O + ⋅CO 2 complex ( 2 ) were spectroscopically identified for the first time by resonant IR photodissociation spectroscopy of their Ar‐tagged adducts (see picture). This identification represents an important step toward understanding the precise role of protonated carbonic acid in CO 2 hydrolysis and related processes.
