Alloying platinum surfaces … … with 3d transition metals makes better cathodes for fuel cells. In their Communication on page 2897 ff., J. K. Nørskov and co‐workers show that this process results in a tuning of the electronic structure of the surface and increases its catalytic activity for the oxygen reduction reaction. The cover picture shows how a wave function involving oxygen p and surface platinum d states in Pt 3 Co is influenced by cobalt atoms in the second layer.
