All this talk of water : Aqueous‐based organocatalytic processes involve a complex set of parameters, and a holistic approach is the key to making informed decisions on the benefits on a case‐by‐case basis. A fundamental mechanistic understanding of the role of water in any reaction is necessary before its general use in organocatalytic reactions may be advocated.
