New order : The ammonolysis of β‐Ta 2 O 5 leads to a new, metastable polymorph of tantalum oxynitride, γ‐TaON, which crystallizes in the VO 2 ( B ) structure type (see picture). Quantum‐chemical calculations suggest an ordered distribution of the oxygen and nitrogen atoms in the structure and confirm the stability of the new polymorph.
