Uniform polymerization sites with high activity can be created by treating a Phillips‐type Cr II /SiO 2 catalyst with CH 2 Cl 2 (as shown schematically in the picture) under well‐defined conditions. A mechanism is proposed in which CH 2 Cl 2 increases the catalytic activity of a small fraction of Cr sites while poisoning the remainder.
