Dinitrogen bound : A compound formed by dinitrogen with cuprous fluoride has been synthesized by laser ablation of a copper rod in the presence of a source of F atoms and N 2 . The rotational spectrum of 15 N 2 CuF has been assigned, and the rotational, centrifugal, and nuclear hyperfine coupling constants have been determined. These constants and electronic structure calculations give conclusions about the nature of this novel molecule.
