Square‐planar iron(III) species bearing no axial ligands can still behave as spin‐admixed systems ( S =3/2, 5/2). The highly unusual homoleptic σ‐organoiron complex [Li(thf) 4 ][Fe III (C 6 Cl 5 ) 4 ] (see anion in picture; green Cl, gray C) is an example of such a system.
