Mythological figure : The reaction of GeBr with Na 2 [Fe(CO) 4 ] yields the polyhedral Ge 10 cluster compound Na 6 [Ge 10 {Fe(CO) 4 } 8 ]⋅18 THF. The arrangement of the 10 germanium atoms (blue spheres in figure) in the cluster core can be described as a centaur polyhedron and therefore represents a new structural motif in germanium cluster chemistry.
