Opposites attract : The compounds [(η 5 ‐C 5 Me 5 ) 2 LnAl(η 5 ‐C 5 Me 5 )] (Ln=Eu, Yb; see scheme) represent the first compounds with a bond between aluminum and a 4f metal. The bonds are predominantly electrostatic with insignificant charge‐transfer and covalent contributions.
