A common source : In a novel twin polymerization, a single monomer is transformed into an organic–inorganic nanocomposite. For example, tetrafurfuryloxysilane polymerizes to form a dense interpenetrating network of poly(furfuryl alcohol) and SiO 2 (see picture). Nanoporous silicate, and potentially other metal oxides, can be obtained when the organic components are removed.
