A glimpse of the elusive : A Group 15 triorganodicyanide has been prepared and crystallographically characterized for the first time. The reaction of phenylselenocyanate with triphenylphosphane affords a facile route to the elusive dicyanotriorganophosphorane Ph 3 P(CN) 2 . The complex reaction mechanism also results in formation of the diiminophosphorane Ph 3 PNC(CN) 2 C(CN) 2 NPPh 3 .
