In three steps to ruthenium‐based heterogeneous catalysts: The central element of this novel and simple route is the immobilization of Ru 0 nanoparticles on montmorillonite (see picture; the arrows indicate a Ru nanoparticle intercalated in the interlaminar space of montmorillonite) with the help of an ionic liquid. The resulting catalyst is highly efficient for the hydrogenation of benzene.
