Halide abstraction chemistry has been exploited to generate the cationic terminal borylene complex 1 , which reacts with Ph 3 PS or Ph 3 AsO to form 3 and 4 . In the case of the corresponding reaction with Ph 3 PO, the intermediate 2 can be isolated, which provides evidence for a two‐step addition/substitution mechanism for the overall metathesis reaction.
