Structures to count on : The title compound crystallizes in a unique crystal‐structure type which can be regarded as a rock‐salt derivative composed of a suboxide group [OCs 6+2 ] 6+ (yellow) and a novel thallium cluster [Tl 8 ] 6− (blue). The valence electron count of the eight‐vertex cluster obeys the Wade–Mingos condensation rules when considering it as a condensation of an octahedron with two tetrahedra.
