A PNC linkage has been realized by the formation of a stable isocyano azaphosphatranium ion with a facile synthesis. Subsequent thermal or Lewis acid catalyzed isomerization of the isocyanide derivative to its cyanide isomer (see scheme) was carried out and followed by 31 P NMR spectroscopy. Both compounds were characterized by X‐ray crystallography.
