Inside out : Deiodination of R* 3 Si 4 I 5 (R*=Si t Bu 3 ) with NaR* affords the silicon compound Si 8 R* 6 . A Si 2 dumbbell(Si1–Si2) is present in this novel cluster framework, embedded as in a sandwich compound between two Si 3 R* 3 rings (see structure; the t Bu methyl groups are not shown). The Si atoms of the dumbbell are “inverse‐tetrahedrally” coordinated by four Si atoms.
