An efficient, selective, and atom‐economical access to ketal building blocks is provided by the title reaction (see scheme). The entire process occurs smoothly in the presence of a catalytic amount of [{Ir(cod)Cl} 2 ] at room temperature in methanol, ethanol, or allyl alcohol as solvents.
