Polyhedral Al halides: Four halogen atoms directly coordinated to an Al 12 icosahedron in two structurally characterized Al 20 clusters indicate the mechanism of formation of Al 22 X 20 subhalides. No Al atom is located in the center of the icosahedron in either of these icosahedral compounds!
