The largest known carborane , which has 14 vertices, was prepared by the reaction of arachno ‐carborane tetraanion 1 with HBBr 2 ⋅SMe 2 (see scheme). The reactivity of both 13‐ ( 2 ) and 14‐vertex carboranes ( 3 and 4 ) has also been examined. The key to the successful preparation of supracarboranes is to block the redox reactions between carborane anions and RBX 2 reagents.
