The reactivity of Fe/S and Fe/Mo/S clusters, similar or analogous to those occurring in biological systems, with thiophilic metal ions is explored. The synthesis of two heteropolynuclear clusters with different coordination geometries at different sites is reported. The new clusters contain Fe III , Mo V , and Cu I centers in pseudotetrahedral, pseudooctahedral, and pseudotrigonal coordination environments, respectively (see structure).
