A second fullerene “Saturn” , C 50 Cl 10 , has been prepared in a graphite arc‐discharge process conducted with small amount of CCl 4 in the inert‐gas atmosphere. This is the first stable smaller fullerene derivative to be prepared and fully characterized (see structure). Its existence has implications for the mechanism of fullerene formation.
